Kano Under Siege Following Sanusi's Imposition

Going by the tweets of Jamil Abubakar, Son of Inspector General of Police, riot has broken out in Kano state following the announcement of former CBN governor Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano. According to his tweets, Jamil says the people of Kano are not happy with the announcement and are causing trouble in the town. He however says the situation has been brought under control and no life was lost.

Sanusi Becomes New Kano Emir

The government of Kano State has announced the name of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as new Emir of Kano. He succeeds Alhaji Ado Bayero who died on Friday after spending 51 years on the respected throne.

Here Is The Official Announcement: “Under state customary, the king makers comprising the Madaki, Sarkin Bai, Makaman and Sarkin Dawaki Maituta had sat down and forwarded three names to the government to choose the one that will succeed the Late Emir Ado Abdullahi Bayero.

“Out of these three names the government has approved Sanusi Lamidu Sanusi, the Dan Majen Kano and former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, as the new Emir of Kano.”

Secretary to State Government, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi made the announcement at Kano Government House on Sunday, confirming the government official position that Mallam Sanusi is the new Emir of Kano.

SR: Suspended CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi, Responds To Allegations Of Financial Recklessness

The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has issued a statement responding to allegations of financial recklessness leveled against him by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and the Nigerian presidency.

In the lengthy statement distributed to the media early this morning, Mr. Sanusi denied any wrongdoing, saying  he had already sent a detailed response to the presidency.

I am compelled to make this public statement to address the various allegations levied against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and cited as the reasons for my suspension from office as the Governor of the CBN on the 19th of February 2014.

As a matter of record, the allegations were made in the following documents:

i.    Briefing Note of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) dated 7th June 2013, Ref: PRES/188/T&I/89 to His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan [the Briefing Note];

ii.    The Letter of Suspension dated 19th February 2014, which I received from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; and

iii.    The petition dated 9th February 2014 by Mr. Erastus Akingbola.

This has been another week of political brouhaha in Nigeria as the owners of the long knives moved in and cut the dagger’s man, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, into shreds. SLS, as he’s fondly called by friends and foes, had committed one of those commonest mistakes in warfare, and it is a useful lesson for all. A good student of military strategy would have known you don’t pull a gun if you are not ready to fire. History is replete with tales of such calamitous and fatal errors. I had expected a man as voluble and volatile as SLS to appreciate that truism.

                      

For allowing President Goodluck Jonathan to fire the first shot, Sanusi now has to fight from a defensive position when he should have been the aggressor. But I won’t write him off.

I hope Jonathan and his warlords thought through the repercussions before they took on Sanusi two days ago. The reason I say that is simple to guess. It is always difficult to fight a man who is not afraid to die.

By singing like a canary against the government he was serving, he should have known that he had grabbed a tiger by the tail and been ready for a battle royale.

In what has become an embarrassing news to the Presidency, the revelations of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi about his alleged $20 Billion missing fund. The presidency has summon the who is who in oil management in Nigeria to a meeting. 

Consequently, President Jonathan met top officials of NNPC on Thursday in closed-door meeting. 

Aso Rock sources say the meeting was also attended by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, Ex-Governor Ahmed Makarfi, who is currently on top of the investigation, Mninster of Petrolueum, The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, The NNPC delegation led by its Group Managing Director, Mr. Andrew Yakubu.>>>>
