Governors
Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, were surprise
guests at a close door meeting called at the instance of President Jonathan at
the State House last night. Both Governors belong to the G5 who defected to the
opposition APC a month ago.
The
meeting began at about 10pm and lasted till the early hours of Monday.

Kwankwaso
and Wamakko drove to the First Lady’s Conference Room venue of the meeting in
the same car at 9pm.
Niger
State Governor, Babangida Aliyu (another aggrieved Governor who hasn’t defected
yet) was also at the meeting, although Alhaji Sule Lamido of Jigawa State was
inexplicably absent.
PDP
Governors’ Forum Chairman, Godswill Akpabio, was joined by the Governors of
Abia, Kebbi, Kogi, Katsina, Bauchi, Plateau, Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom,
Delta, Ebonyi, Kaduna and Taraba States.
President
Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo showed up at the meeting venue at
about 9:50pm. PDP BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih and National Security
Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) also attended last night’s meeting.
It
would be recalled that the President had boasted that the PDP was still the
party to beat and that other opposition big wig politicians will soon be
pitching tent with the PDP.
“We
want those governors to come back to the PDP, but in an event where some of
them feel that it is better to stay outside, they can go and try”, President
Jonathan had said.
He
had continued; “If they are leaving , we will work harder to make sure that we
get more supporters so that at the end of the day, the equilibrium will be
maintained. But I still believe that in Nigeria today, the PDP is still the
party to beat.
“As
they are leaving the ruling party to the opposition, there are other key
political actors who are ready to come to the PDP. At the appropriate time, we
will also receive them.”
Last
night’s attendance of the PDP Governors’ meeting by Wamakko and Kwankwaso could
be an indication that the APC defection show might be resolved.
It was gathered that President Jonathan Personally begged Kano State Governor, Kwankwaso to change his mind because it would be a disaster for him if PDP loses Rivers,Lagos and Kano in 2015.
It was also gathered that the two Governors told him that they attended the meeting out of respect and cannot take any action until they discuses with the rest of their colleagues.
