Yesterday(Thursday 13/03/2014), The Nigerian Police arrested a man in Ogun State in possession of 18 human skulls. It is believed that the said man may have harvested the human skulls from burial sites.
"A
certain Adelani Ayomide was arrested by our stop-and-search team along the
Ado-Odo-Ota local government area," police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi
told Anadolu Agency>>>
"He
was carrying a bag containing 18 human skulls, so we're questioning him,"
said the spokesman.
Adejobi
said that Police Commissioner Ikemefuna Okoye had assured the public that a
thorough investigation would be conducted and that the suspect would "face
the wrath of the law."
He
urged members of the public to provide police with any information that might
lead to the arrest of other suspects in the case.
Rituals
involving human body parts are illegal – but nevertheless rampant – in Nigeria.
Some
claim human body parts are used in magical rituals performed to bring wealth or
for other purposes, in line with certain local beliefs.
Nigerian
law does not recognize voodoo or money rituals, but unlawful possession of
human body parts could lead to prosecution and potential imprisonment.
